I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. use new words and expressions correctly;
2. make notes about the hometown before writing;
3. write about their hometown.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases: hometown, friendly, raise, grow, wheat, smell, drive, raise cows; grow wheat; smell the flowers
2. New structures: Some families raise cows, and others grow wheat.
I think it is a wonderful place to live.
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
1. To make notes about the hometown before writing.
2. To write about the students’ hometown.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Memory of Sunshine Town.
T: Hello, boys and girls, today we will learn Task of Unit 3. Do you still remember the hometown of Class 1, Grade 7 students in Sunshine Middle School? Let’s complete the table.

Step 2 Presentation
1. John’ notes about his hometown.
T: You really have a good memory. We have learnt something about Neil, one of the exchange students. Today we will meet another exchange student, John. He wanted to make a video about his hometown, so he made some notes about it. Read the notes and try to remember as much information as you can.
2. New words and phrases.
T: Time is up. John took some photos of his hometown. I’ll show them to you. Can you say something about these photos with the information in his notes?
Picture 1: raise cows
Picture 2: grow wheat
Picture 3: smell flowers
Picture 4: hear birds sing
3. Make notes.
T: Read Neil’s notes again. We can find that his notes include these pieces of information.
4. Listen and answer.
T: Before making the video, John wrote a script. Let’s listen to it and answer some questions.
(1) How do people make a living?
(2) What can people do for fun?
(3) What are the people like there?
(4) How do people go around?
5. Different parts of Neil’s script.
T: How many parts can we divide the script into? What does each part talk about?
Part 1 (Introduction): name, greetings.
Part 2 (Main body): my house, things to do, hometown.
Part 3 (Conclusion): opinions, invitation.
T: Can you find the useful expression?
